So, this weekend was one of the best I've had in a long time.
Friday night I actually got leave work at a decent time, which is unusual, because I usually have a ton of end-of-the-week activities that keep me there until later. On my way home I stopped at Blockbuster where I had to persuade Counter Dude to call every Blockbuster in town to find my account because I'd lost my Blockbuster card and I had a serious need to rent Unreal Tournament. He finally found me and I anted up my $48,924 in late fees (and had to bite my tongue not to chastise the friendly geek for scamming me by not participating in the “no late fees” policy). Once that was taken care of I headed home, where Joey and I indulged in a fine evening of junk food, video games, old eppies of CSI and a couple of Bluegrass Brewing's finest.
Saturday was a full day! That morning we slept too late to have our usual breakfast with the King, so we checked out the brand new Starbucks that's less than a half mile from my house. After I recuperated from a Pumpkin scone induced sugar coma we went home and did the domestic thing, that is, we baked Christmas cookies and candies (okay, actually we didn't bake the candy, that probably would have started a small fire).
When we finally got all the goodies finished up we headed out to London where we met Nicole and Landon to watch "The Family Stone." Despite being totally annoyed by the 56 gummi bears stuck to the screen, I thought the movie kicked butt. Of course, after watching all those cheesefest Christmas movies on tv all month, anything with a little comedy and a moderately realistic ending would seem great.
After the non-disgustingly cheesy movie we headed to mom and dad’s, only to find an empty house. I made myself at home (after all, it did used to be my home) by sitting inappropriately on the couch (inappropriately, as in I’m sitting on the arm of the couch, not inappropriately as in I’m sitting there nude) as I am wont to do when mom’s not there to threaten my expulsion for such acts, and took in one of the most exciting hockey games I’ve seen in years (6 goals in one period! That’s unbelievable!).
Just as the third period was wrapping up we heard mom and dad pull up. I scrambled to make sure I was sitting appropriately, spilled my coffee and hastily had to turn the couch cushion over to hide the stain and lessen my chances of being tossed to the curb. Luckily, I got my act together just as Mom and Dad and some extended family walk in the door. I distributed baskets of my freshly made Christmas goodies and we all settled down for me to kick some butt at apples to apples.
And that was it for Saturday. Today was the family Christmas party. After some drama about not having a reservation we all gathered for a nice meal and to exchange presents. Much to Mom and Joey’s dismay I got a copy of the new trivial pursuit and forced them to play it with me. Then we made even more Christmas goodies and Dad blessed us with some of his famous pizza.
And that was that. Now here I am.
